Back, shoulder and neck ache

Cramp
Why?
Normally you’d expect to get a bit of back ache in your third trimester because the weight of the baby is changing your posture and your ligaments are softening. You may get backache at other times too, but your private life’s your own!

Suggestions from The Maternity Network

  • Stand up straight, as your mother used to say.
  • Avoid high heels like the plague. Quit those Manolos!
  • Try to encourage any toddlers to walk as opposed to you carrying them. Bribing them with sweets or money is always effective!!
  • A cushion behind your back when sitting can provide effective relief.
  • Ooooh, aaarrrhhh massage!
  • A hot water bottle.
  • Swimming – but don’t do breaststroke legs. You may also want to avoid the 30 foot high diving board!
  • Kneeling down on all fours (especially useful in the last week& if your baby has shifted into an uncomfortable position).
