Constipation

Constipation

It can be worrying when your baby hasn’t filled their nappy for a few days, even more worrying every time you change them in case they cover you in a bottom explosion!!

when my baby stopped pooing I read loads of books and texted all my friends! Its not unusual for a baby who has breastmilk to go a few days without pooing and but it could be more concerning for a baby on formula. If after 24 hours your baby still hasn't gone and you've done the suggsestions below, see your gp or health visitor.

Suggestions from The Maternity Network:

  • Massage their tummy in a clockwise direction using the weight of yiyur relaxed hand only. Use an oil like organic sunflower or grapeseed.
  • Ensure baby is winded correctly after every feed using the tailorpose position - sit your baby on the floor between your legs, bring their feet together, knees out to the side like a little frog! lean baby forward about 45 degrees. You could support your baby around their chest to prevent them from falling too far forward. this is most helpful for wind that needs to be burped up.
  • Give your baby tummy-time after a feed, bringing their hands forward, this is most helpful for trapped wind thgatr needs to be ecpelled from thir gut/colons.
  • In the middle of your babys feet are the reflexes for the digestive system - use your thumb in a clockwise direction.
