Colds (Babies)

Colds (baby)
These are common and the bain of our lives! There are many solutions to try when your baby is unwell.

Suggestions from the Maternity Network:

  • For chest relief, lay your baby on their tummy and let your wrists go limp and relaxed. Tap confidently around the back of their chest (your baby may spit up or vomit if they are very chesty).
  • Massage your baby’s toes for Reflexology sinus relief.
  • Put a bowl of boiling water in their room to moisten the air so it’s not too dry.
  • Get one of those nasal suckers (one with a filter!).
  • Use baby nasal drops to soften the bogies!
  • Allow your little ’un to sleep as much as possible! Even if this means copious amounts of Zzzzzzz during the day.
  • Don’t force food down them if they’re not hungry; they won’t starve. It’s similar to when you’re unwell when the last thing you want to do is face a plate of nosh.
  • Raise the top of their mattress 45 degrees
  • Put a tissue with 1 drop of tea tree essential oil on it in their room. Remember to remove this when you go to bed. Always consult a practitioner in aromatherapy first.
  • Put some vaseline around their nose so it doesn’t get sore, as well as on their chin. It acts as a great mucus and dribble protector! Also very handy if you get your ring stuck on your finger, but that’s another story.
